What is blogging and how do blogs work?

About two months ago a good friend taught me that blogs can be a very powerful tool. Before that, I didn’t even know what blogging meant. And since then, I’ve developed a slight addiction to reading blogs and was motivated enough to start this one.
The Value of Reading Blogs
Unless you are a truly boring individual you have at least three categories of interests in life. Some of the more common categories are cooking/recipes, your hometown, and sports. For each interest in life (no matter how specific it is), I can almost guarantee someone maintains a blog about it. People who write good blogs have dedicated their time to become experts so that you can know just about as much as them in less than an hour per week. In today’s world where everyone seems to be limited by time, blogs are an extremely efficient way to learn.
How Blogs Work For You
Once you’ve figured out the categories you want to focus on (mine are art, Baltimore, European soccer, and of course fisheries/seafood) and you’ve found a handful of blogs that interest you, you’re ready for the next time-saving step. Find a website that will compile all entries posted to your blogs into one webpage. Google Reader is an excellent (and free!) service that allows you to view any blog you want and organize your blogs into categories.
On any SOP web page, click on the “Follow This Blog” link in the middle column to set up your Google Reader account. You tell Google which blogs you like and each time an entry is posted it shows up on your Reader website. Over time, you will figure out which blogs are most appropriate for you.
Not convinced about jumping into the world of blogs?
No problem!!! Ease in by signing up for an email subscription, where each time a new entry is posted, you get an email alert. SOP has provided an email subscription form in the middle column. Simply fill in your name and email address and off we go.
**On average SOP will post 1-2 entries per week**

I just like the approach you took with this article. It is not often that you find something so concise and informative.
