Changing the way we think about our oceans…

“Teach a Man to Fish”

Posted on | October 28, 2009 | No Comments

In its third year, the Teach a Man to Fish blog event is underway (and almost over!). Jacqueline Church, its creator and sustainable seafood advocate, hosts the six-week virtual event on her website, where we are all encouraged to send her our favorite sustainable seafood recipes.

Jacqueline capitalizes on the increasing use of social media (blogging, Twitter, etc.) to affect changes in people’s seafood purchasing and consuming behavior. All by soliciting recipes?? Yes! Last year’s event reached global proportions with recipes submitted from 10 countries and 10 states. People knowledgeable of sustainable seafood are exposed to even more ways to support the movement. Newcomers to the movement can use this opportunity to learn which of his or her favorite recipes feature a sustainable fish or shellfish. And the best part is: everyone who makes one of the dishes will be asking their local fishmonger to sell them sustainable seafood….brilliant!

The third annual Teach a Man to Fish blog event ends October 31st. If you aren’t able to send in a recipe for this year, you can still participate by checking out all the recipes once they’re posted. SOP will alert you with another quick post when they’re available. We hope you find a few recipes to try out. Maybe your favorite will be the one SOP submitted?
